Vinyl Siding Home Remodel

The Importance of Quality Windows and Siding

At Liberty Home Solutions in Springfield Missouri, we would like to educate you on the importance of having quality siding and windows for your home. Recently, we remodeled a home in Nixa Missouri, which had traditional wood board and batten siding. When we first arrived, we thought the home’s siding, and windows appeared to be in great shape. The home had a beautiful exterior, however this quickly changed. In the gallery above you will notice the significant amount of dry-rot and water damage caused by faulty sealed windows and siding.

Water Damaged Caused by Faulty Siding and Windows

As you can see in the gallery above, we had major water damage. The cause of the water damage was from the lack of a moisture barrier behind the board and batten wood siding. Over the years, moisture had worked its way through the siding, and then started its way through the particle board separating the studs and insulation of the home’s interior from the exterior. Another cause that led to this condition was the windows were not installed properly. Gaps on the exterior and lips, (meaning areas of the window that were supposed to be flush with the siding), were allowing water to travel in and flow behind the siding, leaking into the home behind the interior’s drywall. Surprisingly, the home owners had these windows had been replaced less than five years ago, but due to the poor installation, they had to pay to replace them yet again.

At Liberty Home Solutions, we are a home remodel company first, meaning that when we remodel a home, inevitably we will find some issues when we tear out older siding or windows. Our company’s difference from other vinyl siding and window companies is that we do not cover up issues to save time and money. We repair, replace and ensure you will never have any of the issues that this home had.

Starting from Scratch: Repair, Replace

On this home, we had to rip out all the windows, stud supports, particle board and start from scratch. We removed the affected interior areas of the home, and replaced the drywall and the damaged studs. Then we insulated from the inside and prepped the home’s exterior with a moisture barrier. Once the moisture barrier was completed, we installed the windows first, using our energy-efficient double-hung windows along with some unique casement windows above and below, and a two tone trim.

Insulated Vinyl Siding

After the window installation, we then hung our fullback foam siding insulation, providing extreme energy efficiency and an added layer of protection before we installed our vinyl siding. The home owners wanted to go with our costal dune color. We suggested adding shake vinyl siding to the front of the home to create a unique look while allowing for a textured siding, which ensured that would keep depth and character that the original board and batten siding provided. On the home’s sides and back we installed Dutch lap vinyl siding. Dutch lap is a great choice for those looking for a clean, yet interesting exterior remodel.

The end result? This home was now a perfectly repaired, water tight and insulated. We removed all the harmful mold and mildew, ensuring that we will not have continued growth, and replaced all the damaged studs. The new windows and siding, perfectly complimented the owner’s style preferences, allowing for a beautiful new home remodel. The best part? They will never have to worry again. Our products are backed with a lifetime transferable warranty. Energy efficient, beautiful, and installed the right way.
